Senior health economist

We are looking for an exceptional Senior Health Economist to join our Health Economics Team and support the strategic and project management of our health economic modelling activities. This is an opportunity for a driven, enthusiastic individual with broad technical knowledge to join a dynamic consultancy.

The successful candidate will focus on the delivery of high-quality economic models for health technology assessment. The candidate will participate in all aspects of model development, from model conceptualisation, clinical and economic evidence review, synthesis of inputs, programming and communication.  The candidate is expected to deliver work to the highest standards and work both independently and as part of a team. Key responsibilities

  • Review and critically appraise health economic evidence
  • Design and develop economic models (cost-effectiveness and budget impact models)
  • Work with systematic reviewing colleagues to scope new projects, develop protocols and run search strategies to identify necessary evidence for health economic models
  • Prepare presentations and study reports related to health economics and outcomes research
  • Prepare draft manuscripts, posters and other publications
  • Assist in proposal development and pursue business opportunities
  • Support and supervise less experienced members of the team
  • Project manage small projects, or components of larger projects, with support from the senior team
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships
  • Undertake activities of continuous professional development and learning

Essential requirements and qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in medicine, pharmacology, life sciences, economics or another relevant discipline with a grade of 2:1 or above
  • Post-graduate degree in health economics or related discipline (MSc or equivalent)
  • 2 to 3 years of experience of applying economic and mathematical modelling techniques in a commercial or academic setting
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health technology assessment
  • Advanced skills in Excel and a good understanding of statistics
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
  • Excellent accuracy and attention to detail, along with the ability to maintain high quality deliverables given competing demands and changing deadlines
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to explain complex modelling techniques and results to a non-expert audience
  • Experience of quality control and critical assessment of economic models
  • An organized and methodological approach to planning and delivering work
  • High self-motivation, can-do attitude, optimistic outlook and leadership potential

Desirable skills and experience

  • Experience conducting systematic reviews and/or meta-analyses and/or indirect comparisons
  • Experience with statistical and economic modelling software (e.g. R, treeage, WinBUGS, SAS, Stata)
  • Experience in line management and mentoring others
